The successor to Windows XP has been taking quite some time to surface. Not that long ago a new operating system appeared every two years, but Windows XP has been around for more than five years. There have been some changes in the OS, like the addition of Service Pack 2 and different types of the OS like Media Centre and Tablet editions, but the essential workings of Windows XP have not really changed over the years. However with Vista a lot of things "under the hood" of the OS have changed compared to Windows XP..
