Apple iPhone has Mac OS X operating system

Apple finally presented its iPhone today at MacWorld in San Francisco. The Apple iPhone is a combination of three different products: a cell phone, a widescreen iPod with touch controls and a Internet communications device.

The iPhone has a big 3.5" LCD display with a resolution of 320 x 480 pixels and it looks really sweet. The operating system of the phone is some Mac OS X version and you can control it with the touchscreen.

As a widescreen iPod you can listen to music or watch videos on the 3.5-inch display. The Internet device features look pretty impressive. The device has the Safari browser, a HTML e-mail client, Google Maps and it even has support for Mac OS X Widgets.

Apple claims the iPhone features the most revolutionary user interface since the mouse. It’s an entirely new interface based on a large multi-touch display and innovative new software that lets you control everything using only your fingers. So you can glide through albums with Cover Flow, flip through photos and email them with a touch, or zoom in and out on a section of a web page — all by simply using iPhone’s multi-touch display. The iPhone also features a full QWERTY soft keyboard, which features a "predictive" mode that tries to correct mistakes.

There are two versions of this phone, one with 4GB storage capacity and one with 8GB.

Some more features:
  • GSM: Quad-band (MHz: 850, 900, 1800, 1900)
  • Wireless connectivity: Wi-Fi (802.11b/g) + EDGE + Bluetooth 2.0
  • 2 megapixel digital camera
  • The battery life of the iPhone lasts up to 5 hours when talking, watching video or browsing the Internet and up to 16 hours while listening to music. The standby battery time isn't known.

    The iPhone measures 4.5 x 2.4 x 0.46 inches (115 x 61 x 11.6mm) and weighs 4.8 ounces (135g).

It will start shipping in June but it will be a Cingular Wireless exclusive. The 4GB model is priced at $499 and the 8GB one costs $599.
