China and Russia plan unmanned Mars mission

China and Russia will team up to send an unmanned mission to Mars in 2009.
In 2009 China and Russia will launch an unmanned mission to explore Mars and one of its moons.

A Russian rocket will carry a Chinese satellite to survey the planet and a Russian exploration vehicle will land on the largest of its moons.

The announcement coincides with Chinese President Hu Jintao's visit to Moscow.

China's expanding space program is seen as a sign of its growth as a world power.
