Although VIA officially released its PT800 chipset, which supports single-channel DDR400 memory and an 800MHz FSB (front-side bus), on July 8, the company has not started volume shipments of the chipset to motherboard makers since it did not finish the final testing for Serial ATA (SATA) compatibility of the paired VT8237 south bridge until recently, sources said.
Currently, Intel is still dominating the 800MHz FSB (front-side bus) Pentium 4 chipset arena. Its 865 chipset is priced US$10 higher than comparable chipsets from Taiwan-based competitors, according to motherboard makers. |
