Samsung 70-inch LCD display has 500,000:1 contrast ratio

Samsung introduces a 70 inch 1080p LCD HDTV with a dynamic contrast ratio of unbelievable 500,000:1. The Samsung LN70F91BD has LED backlight that turns off automatically in dark image areas, increasing the contrast dramatically. The Local Dimming backlighting is an interesting method to increase contrast by leaving dark areas unlit and only light the area that show something. This technology is even cutting the power consumption by 50% compared to conventional LCD TVs.
