It is really a blatant copy of Nintendo's Wii Fit game, which comes out to the US next month. EA doesn't shy away from this fact, though.
The head of EA Sports, Peter Moore, said, "I need to have a point of difference" between Wii Fit and the unnamed EA fitness title, according to a quote from Ars Technica. Moore said that Wii Fit has more of an Eastern focus, taking elements of Tai-Chi.
"We need to look more at western fitness in which I can actually be moving and start to sweat a little bit, and that's what we're working on right now," he said.
Additionally, Moore said, the challenge is creating a game that provides a good workout but is also genuinely fun.
The Wii Balance Board has already elicited interest from third-party publishers. Virtual skiing, cheerleading and even boxing have already materialized in upcoming games. EA is the first to propose a direct competitor to Wii Fit.
