Posted on Wednesday, August 06 2008 @ 22:06:27 CEST by

German computer site Golem reports Hitachi has shown off new HDD platters with a capacity of 610GB at the Magnetic Recording Conference in Singapore last month.

These new platters will allow the firm to create 3.5" HDDs with a capacity of up to 2.25TB and will even make it possible to debut 2.5" notebook HDDs with a capacity of 1TB.

The site also reports Hitachi is aiming to make HDD platters with a capacity of 1TB in the 2009-2011 timeframe.
