EDN reports another AMD executive has left the company. This time it's Elke Eckstein, who has left her position as manufacturing VP at AMD's fab in Dresden to assume the post of COO at Osram.
Elke Eckstein, who as of today has assumed the post of COO at Osram Opto Semiconductors GmbH in Regensburg, Germany, joined AMD in September 2006 and was tasked with the day-to-day operations of AMD's 300-mm Fab 30, as well as with overseeing the transformation to 300-mm wafer production as Fab 38.

As of 11 am eastern, AMD had not issued a statement on Eckstein’s replacement, a move will surely lead to further industry speculation on the Sunnyvale, Calif-based company’s manufacturing strategy. Industry watchers are currently divided on what the best move for AMD would be regarding manufacturing, with some suggesting the company needs to keep manufacturing in-house to stay competitive and other suggesting AMD should sell off its fabs for a cash infusion as a step toward profitability.
