DigiTimes heard AMD's plans for the discrete graphics card market at a Radeon HD 4870 X2 launch event. The chip maker says they're aiming for a marketshare of 50 percent of the discrete graphics card market by the end of the year and they're hoping they'll be able to surpass NVIDIA in 2009.

According to AMD's PR guys the introduction of the Radeon HD 4800 series helped AMD to boost their marketshare from 30% to 40% in just a couple of weeks time.

AMD also made a prediction about the notebook market, according to them 35% of the notebooks shipped next year will have discrete graphics but 65% will still have IGP.
