Next month both ViewSonic and BenQ will release 17-inc LCD monitors with a response time of 8ms. The companies expect that these 8ms models will become mainstream in the first quarter of next year.

BenQ plans to release two or three 8ms models and increase its sales proportion of 16- and 12-ms response-time modesls in the fourth quarter. The company expects that 8ms models won't become mainstream until Q1 2005 because upstream panel yields still need to improve.

ViewSonic also plans to introduce two or three 8ms models in Q4 2004, while focusing on models with 16- and 12ms response times. This company also expects that 8ms models will become mainstream in Q1 2005.

Chi Mei Group and Royal Philips Electroncis also plan to unveil 8ms models in Q4 of this year.
