Intel 80-core wafer spotted at Gitex 2008

FUD Zilla spotted prototypes of Intel's 80-core processors at Gitex 2008 in Dubai, these chips were made at 65nm and are pretty huge but the site says it will take another five to seven years until they'll be ready for launch. By then, Intel will be able to make them on a much smaller process.
If you take in the account that the 80 core CPU should come in five to seven years this would probably be the time of 10nm or even smaller transistors as 32nm is due in late 2009 or early 2010 and two years after is the time for 22nm, so in 2012.

As you can see the CPU is quite huge but we also learned that at this stage this CPU cannot run Windows, but it shows some basic functionalities and a smart CPU management where it can turn of cores it doesn’t need and save some power and battery life.
Head over to FUD Zilla for some additional photos of the CPU.
