ATI cards crashing GTA4

Posted on Wednesday, December 03 2008 @ 16:23 CET by Thomas De Maesschalck
PC Games Hardware confirms ATI Radeon HD 3850, Radeon HD 3870, Radeon HD 4850, Radeon HD 4870, and possible other ATI graphics card as well refuse to run Grand Theft Auto IV.

The site says they tested these four cards on two X48 based systems with Windows Vista x64 and ATI Catalyst 8.11 WHQL drivers and all they got was a crash right after the GTA4 welcome screen.

The site says NVIDIA cards also had some trouble, but after clicking the exe file several times the game would run fine. Hopefully AMD or Rockstar will quickly provide a solution for this problem.
It is of course possible that GTA 4 (PC) will run under different conditions (operating system, graphics card, driver, motherboard). But there are reports of users in our German forum and in the 3D Center forum that describe similar problems. It also seems like Nvidia cards are also negatively affected; we had to run the exe file several times before GTA 4 started.

    I got a 4850 Crossfire also...
Deactivating the crossfire helps starting it, but of course, i've got less memory to run it full options... and got some flickering...

dude, dont even think you'll be able to play GTA4 with 9200

You realise your videocard is nowhere near good enough to run the game, right? It's well below the minimum requirements. Minimum ATI card is the X1900 256mb.
