VR Zone received word that Intel will unveil the successor to the current Atom lineup in Q4 2009. The new Atom chip is codenamed Pineview, it's a 45nm chip based on the Lincroft architecture. A single-core version will arrive first, and a dual-core variant will follow in Q1 2010.

The Pineview Atom will integrate most of the northbridge functions such as the memory controller and it will even have integrated graphics into the processor to reduce the footprint further to enable system makers to develop smaller nettops and netbooks.

Intel touts Pineview will deliver a 70 percent reduction in total package size and a 50 percent reduction in total kit TDP.
This new platform is known as PineTrail-D that comes with the Tigerpoint chipset supporting up to DDR2-800 DIMMs and will certainly prove a serious challenge to the Nvidia ION, AMD Yukon and VIA Nano platforms later this year.
