Sharp launchex 8 Megapixel CCD

Sharp Corp has launched the RJ21V3BAOET, a 1/1.8-inch CCD solid-state image sensor (the image sensor's diagonal width is about 9mm) with a high resolution of 8 megapixels. Such 1/1.8-inch CCD solid-state image sensors are used primarily for compact digital cameras. Although some 2/3-inch CCD image sensors for digital single-lens reflex cameras feature a resolution of 8 megapixels, "This is the industry's first 1/1.8-inch CCD image sensor to have achieved a resolution of more than 8 megapixels," according to Sharp.
