BoogleTech has made a guide on benchmarking :

When reviewing systems, BoogleTech reviewers use a standard 'benchmark suite' in order to keep all tests fair and unbiased. These benchmarks can be very confusing (even the reviewers have problems at times!). As such, I have written a guide to assist you in benchmarking your own system using the same software that we use for BoogleTech.
