A Half Life 2 site reports that Valve has released a 'warez version' of Half Life 2 which is distributing through the Bittorent network. According to that site this warez version from Valve keeps track of people that downloading it and will ban these people from the Steam network.
We're running a bit of an experiment. We're keeping track of the accounts that do this and will be shutting them off.
So, as you can see, VALVe Software have released a test "warez" version aimed at catching people out. These people will have their accounts deleted and will be banned from Steam.

ridiculous, who would be stupid enough to try to activate a warez version? A true warez version would not require steam or activation

ridiculous, who would be stupid enough to try to activate a warez version. Besides a true warez file would neither require activation or steam at all.
