NY Times had an interview with NVIDIA CEO Jen-Hsun Huang, one of the things he reveals is that his company is not working on a x86 chip, as some rumors suggested earlier this year. Huang stated x86 is just not important right now. Instead of trying to compete in the processor market, NVIDIA is focusing on making the best GPUs, promoting GPGPU computing and developing Tegra chips for mobile devices. Rumors have swirled for ages that Nvidia will make an x86 chip to rival Intel and A.M.D.

“If we have such a product, I haven’t found it yet,” Mr. Huang said. “It’s just not important right now.”

Instead, Nvidia has invested in countering Intel and A.M.D. on three fronts.
