Elpida will reportedly acquire Qimonda's graphics DRAM business

Posted on Tuesday, August 04 2009 @ 17:54:24 CEST by

EE Times reports Elpida could soon acquire the graphics DRAM operations from bankrupt Qimonda:
The two could ink a long-mooted deal as early as this month, according to a report from Reuters , though the news agency cautions price and other details are still being negotiated and the deal could still fall through.

Graphics DDR memory -- used in high-speed computers and games -- would not represent a significant boost to sales at the Japanese memory maker , which is vying with Micron Technology to be the world's No.3 maker of dynamic random access memory.
