Engadget published more than a dozen of photos of the OLPC XO-3 concept, a ultrathin tablet slated to arrive in 2012. The goal is to create a $75 tablet with a 8.5" x 11" touchscreen based on Pixel Qi technology, with a little folding ring in the corner for grip and a camera in the back. The device is extremely thin, the technology to make this product isn't there yet but Negroponte hopes it will be possible by 2012.
Besides the XO-3, the OLPC project is also working on the XO-1.5 and XO-1.75. The XO-1.5 is an update to the current model, it's expected to arrive in January for around $200. The new model features a VIA processor with double the speed than the current AMD processor, as well as four times more DRAM and flash memory.
One year later the XO-1.75 should make its debut, this computer will run a Marvell ARM processor that enables two times the speed at a quarter of the power usage. It's expected to have a 8.9" touchscreen inside, and rubber bumpers on the outer casing. Pricing of the XO-1.75 is expected to be in the $175 range.
