Internet Explorer 6 no longer the most popular browser

The latest web browser marketshare data from Net Applications reveals Internet Explorer 8 is now the most used browser with a marketshare of 22.31 percent. Internet Explorer 6 has been dethroned but still has a marketshare of 20.07 percent, almost three percent more than Firefox 3.5. IE7 takes the fourth place with a marketshare of 14.58 percent, and Firefox 3.0 has a 5.29 percent hold of the market. Google clocks in at 3.92 percent, while the rest of the market is split between various other browsers.
According to Net Applications' monthly usage share figures, No. 1 IE and No. 2 Firefox each slipped a bit compared to December--IE down from 62.7 to 62.2 percent, and Firefox down from 24.6 to 24.4 percent. Chrome rose from 4.6 to 5.2 percent, and Safari stayed level at about 4.5 percent.
