Hard drive shipments to soar with 24% this year

During 2005 the hard disk drive market will see a rise in shipments of 24%, from 305 million last year to 378 milion this year, according to Trendfocus.

The raise is mainly thanks to sales of hard drives for consumer electronics devices such as MP3 players, portable media players, mobile phones and also digital video recorders. Demand for mini hard drives used in consumer electronic devices are projected to double in 2005 and growing more than 50% yearly through 2008.

The biggest HDD manufacturer is Seagate with a share of 26.9%, followed by Western Digital, Maxtor, Hitachi and Samsung. Read more at EET
