Samsung announced it has expanded its "Green Memory" initiative with LPDDR2 for smartphones and other consumer electronics and GDDR5 for graphics cards. The LPDDR2 memory is available in frequencies of up to 1066MHz and runs at 1.2V, while green GDDR5 offers up to 7Gbps at 1.35V or 1.5V.
-Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., the world leader in advanced memory technology, announced today that it has expanded its ‘Green Memory’ initiative going beyond DRAM and solid state drives (SSDs) to include several memory products for PC and mobile application areas.
At the seventh annual Samsung Mobile Solutions Forum being held here today, Samsung announced that its ‘Green Memory’ initiative will now include Samsung LPDDR2 and GDDR5 green memory as well as its GreenDDR3 and Green SSDs.
Stepping up its efforts to increase worldwide interest in Green IT products and eco-friendly solutions, a new website (http://www.samsung.com/GreenMemory) has been launched to promote the expanded initiative to OEM customers and consumers. It provides detailed information on Samsung’s green product strategies and green-focused partners, for all three market areas, as well as industry-wide green IT trends.
“Intent on making information about our power-saving efforts more accessible not only to key manufacturing customers but also to consumers, we have created an extensive ‘Green Memory’ hub website,” said Dong-Soo Jun, executive vice president, Memory Sales and Marketing, Samsung Electronics. “We believe that given adequate knowledge about the energy-saving advantages of ‘Green Memory’ solutions, and their inherent economic benefits, a growing number of end users will choose to buy Green IT products that use Samsung green memory.”
The website offers detailed information on features, lineups and specifications for Samsung’s 30 nanometer (nm) class* DDR3 DRAM, SSDs using 30nm-class NAND flash memory, 40nm-class* LPDDR2 for mobile devices, and 40nm-class GDDR5 for graphics computing.
Also, some information on co-promotional activities with Samsung Green partners such as AMD, Cisco Systems, Fujitsu, HP (Hewlett-Packard), IBM, Intel, Microsoft and VMware can be found. The site also features popular Green calculators used to estimate energy cost savings afforded by the use of Samsung’s Green memory products.
Samsung has been promoting its Green initiative with its partners in the server market segment since mid-2009, aiming to create greater awareness of its industry-leading DDR3 memory solutions and applications by focusing on higher performance and energy efficiency.
