Barnes & Noble Nook Color to get tablet upgrade

DigiTimes heard Barnes & Noble will give its Nook Color eReaders an upgrade to Android 2.2 in January 2011, allowing the device to be used as a tablet:
Barnes & Noble will upgrade its Nook Color e-book readers to support Android 2.2 OS in January 2011, allowing the book retailer to venture into the tablet PC market. Barnes & Noble outsources the production of the Nook Color e-book readers to Inventec.

Taiwan-based component suppliers noted that the global E Ink EPD market is expected to be around 7.5-9 million units in 2010, of which Amazon is expected to account for 5-6 million units, while Barnes & Noble's first generation Nook is expected to account for around one million units. Nook Color shipments are expected to reach one million units by the end of 2010, Nook component suppliers noted.
