Posted on Monday, January 10 2011 @ 17:51:14 CET by

MSI introduced the GT680, a new 15.6" gaming laptop with the Intel Core i7 2630QM processor and NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 460M. The system runs Windows 7 Home Premium (or Ultimate) and supports up to 16GB DDR3, a Full HD screen (or 1366 x 768 pixels) with LED backlight, HDMI, up to 1TB RAID 0 (or 120GB SSD + 500GB HDD), a Blu-ray drive (or DVD burner), two USB 3.0 ports, eSATA, 5-in-1 memory card reader, 2.1 speakers, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, 720p webcam and a 9-cell li-ion battery.
MSI's high-end GT680 gaming laptop features the 2nd Generation Intel® Core™ i7 mobile platform for quad core processors and the advanced DirectX 11-ready nVidia GeForce GTX 460M discrete graphics card and accelerated dual solid state drive (SSD) architecture. It attained a record-breaking 18,162 points when tested with PCMark Vantage—the fastest of any laptop ever. It truly is the King of Laptops.

Taipei—Who says laptops can't perform as fast as high-end desk tops? MSI's new generation GT680 gaming laptop not only packs Intel® 2nd Generation Core™i7 quad core processor and nVidia's high-end DirectX 11-ready GeForce GTX 460M discrete graphics card, it also features four DDR3 memory slots, boosting memory capacity to 16GB, and accelerated dual SSD architecture, maximizing performance and putting it on par with the best desk tops out there.

Eric Kuo, associate vice president for global sales, MSI Notebook, points out that because MSI’s R&D team insists on the best, MSI is able to roll out the world's fastest notebook computer—the GT680, which smashed speed records in PCMark Vantage tests with 18,162 points. Not only did it obtain the highest score ever for any laptop platform, it performs on average three times faster than other high-end gaming laptops currently on the market.

High performance GT680 hits market
Intel® 2nd Generation Core™ i7 quad core processor: The MSI GT680 features Intel's most advanced Intel® 2nd Generation Core™ i7 quad core processor for better performance. Furthermore, new generation Turbo Boost 2.0 technology greatly boosts the computing capabilities of all cores, while the Quick Sync Video technology enhances multimedia file computing performance during conversion, synchronization, and compilation.

nVidia GeForce GTX 460M discrete graphics card: MSI's GT680 comes with nVidia's new generation, high-end GeForce GTX 460M discrete graphics card with 1.5GB of GDDR5 memory. It supports DirectX 11 for higher resolution, allowing you to see, for example, details of buildings off in the distance, making your games more realistic. You can make out details, like facial features and costumes, of characters far off or hidden in some dark corner, making it easier to differentiate between friend and foe and to draw a bead on them if they turn out to be the latter.

Four DDR3 memory slots: To provide gamers with the most powerful machines possible, the new generation GT680 comes with four DDR3 memory slots for a maximum of 16GB, giving you an NB with the memory capacity of a server.

Accelerated dual SSD architecture: The GT680 also comes with optional accelerated dual solid state drive (SSD) architecture. The read-write speed of just one dual solid state drive alone is three times faster than traditional hard discs. Coupled with the RAID 0 accelerated dual architecture not only doubles the GT680's hard drive memory capacity, it enhances read-write speeds by some 70%. TDE instantly boosts system performance

TDE technology: The GT680 also uses MSI's own Turbo Drive Engine (TDE) technology, so with just one touch of the luminescent Turbo hotkey located above the keyboard instantly throttles up performance. So whether the GT680 is processing heavy-load graphics or other applications, it won’t get bogged down. You can rest assured knowing that when you go careening about the galaxy or you find yourself battling orcs, the GT680 has your back.

Cooler Boost: In addition to TDE instant overclocking, MSI included its own powerful Cooler Boost technology in the GT680. Again, just one touch of the luminescent hotkey above the keyboard kicks in the powerful cooling function which also shows current core temperatures and fan RPMs. Now, NB systems can stay cool even when working for long periods in hot conditions.

Like you are there
MSI Premium Sound: So you think laptops just can't offer a decent sound experience? Think again! The MSI GT680 will completely shatter this stereotype. As a result of its masterful craftsmanship and driven by uncompromising standards for sound quality, MSI has created MSI Premium Sound, allowing you to experience unprecedented sound fidelity. MSI worked closely with world renowned sound system designers at Dynaudio to carry out vast amounts of study and countless calculations on the GT680 notebook computer to determine ideal locations to install speakers to obtain obstruction-free sound transmission.

THX TruStudio Pro: The MSI GT680 is equipped with THX TruStudio Pro wrap around sound, heretofore found only in cinemas. The sound is pumped out of top-end internal speakers, so that the GT680 is able to reproduce any music type or frequency faithfully.

Cinema Pro technology: The GT680 laptop features powerful multimedia processing and MSI’s own Cinema Pro technology for the best possible graphics. A touch of the Cinema Pro hotkey instantly switches to film mode for higher resolution and richer colors to bring you the same great audio experience found in live performances, films, and recording studios. MSI’s all new GT680 is not only the best choice for serious gamers, it is a powerful digital multimedia center.

Multiple HD hardware: MSI GT680 is equipped with a wide cinema-class 16:9 ratio LED display. Not only are colors rich and crisp, you don’t have those pesky black bars at the top and bottom or your screen when viewing HD films. Images are true-to-life and the HD720p webcam allows you to enjoy fast, smooth, and bright high fidelity web calls with friends and family. If you want something bigger than a high definition computer screen to view films, the MSI GT680 also comes with an HDMI port, so any type of high-fidelity, high-definition video can be played on your NB, but viewed via a cable on a large-screen LCD television screen.

More power, recharges devices faster
i-Charger technology: The MSI GT680 is equipped with MSI's own i-Charger technology. More powerful electrical current to the USB speeds up recharging more than three-fold, so that you don’t need to spend nearly as much time to get your mobile devices up and running again.

Latest USB3.0 ports: The GT680 comes with new USB3.0 ports which boast transfer speeds of 4.8Gbps—10 times faster than USB2.0, and 80% higher power transmission, providing vastly higher data transfer rates and charging speeds for external hard drives, flash drives, and other handheld electronic devices.

ECO Engine power saving technology: The GT680 comes with MSI's own ECO Engine, a power-saving technology which allows you to select from among five power management levels—Video Game, Film, Presentation, Word Processing, and Turbo Battery, automatically adjusting display brightness as well as on/off switch, sleep mode, and processor performance settings, maximizing battery flexibility and use per charge.

King of Laptops
The ultimate gaming laptop: The GT680 is the next step in the MSI G Series of gaming notebooks. The glowing white characters "MSI" in the center of the cover, the black diamond shape, and fire engine red trim underscore the GT680's minimalist elegance. The stylish rhombic pattern below the keyboard and the high tech brush finish on the touchpad add texture. The body is sheathed in MSI's own rich, glossy color film print to protect the GT680 from scratching and wear to keep your machine looking nice.

Light and sound show technology: The MSI GT680 has another cool feature—a one-of-a-kind LED light show, highlighting LED lights around the NB’s edges. So whether you're listening to music or engrossed in an exciting, fast paced game, you can flick on the MSI LED light show hotkey with the touch of a finger and lights embedded on both sides of the notebook and in front of the keyboard will pulsate automatically to sounds emitted by your laptop, kicking the thrill level of your GT680 up a few notches.

Chiclet keyboard and seamless touchpad: The GT680 features an independent chiclet keyboard, so the keys are nice and solid to the touch, making it more difficult to hit the wrong key when you are on the battlefield. What's more, the GT680 also comes with MSI's unique seamless touchpad which is not only more comfortable and smoother to use, it also blends in with the wrist rest areas in front of the keyboard to add an extra touch of class to this mean machine.
