Copper rise spike to increase competition for securing components

DigiTimes reports new record prices for copper will increase the competition for securing component supplies for electronics:
As London Metal Exchange (LME) spot quotes for copper are expected to steadily climb to a new record level of nearly US$10,000 per metric ton after the Lunar New Year, sources from notebook vendors believe that the competition for securing component supplies will become a lot fiercer in the first half of 2011.

The rising raw material cost has already caused several makers of upstream components such as connectors and cables, to see dropping gross margins.
