Digitimes: Laptop market may grow 12 percent this year

Digitimes Research senior analyst Joanne Chien estimates global laptop sales may reach a growth of only 12 percent this year due to the rise of the tablet market:
Global notebook shipment growth will have difficulty in surpassing 15% on year and is expected to reach only 12% since buyers from the enterprise market are strongly fond of tablet PCs because of Apple's iPad and are considering replacing their existing notebooks with a tablet PC instead of a new notebook, according to Digitimes Research senior analyst Joanne Chien.

As more tablet PCs will start showing up in the second half of 2011, tablet PC's impact on the notebook industry will only expand further, causing global netbook shipments in 2011 to reach only 24.23 million units, while forcing the notebook industry to enter the initial phase of maturity, Chien noted.
