Microsoft unveils Windows Mobile 5.0

Microsoft today announced Windows Mobile 5.0 at the Microsoft & Embedded Developers Conference in Las Vegas. This is a new major upgrade of Microsoft's operating system for mobile devices such as PDAs and smartphones.

Some of the new features and improvements:

Support for new technologies like push-to-talk, video calling and conferencing.
Support for 3G, WiFi and improved Bluetooth connectivity.
Support for QWERTY keyboards
Persistent memory storage that retains information when the device's battery is depleted.
Microsoft Office for Windows Mobile: Excel Mobile, Word Mobile and PowerPoint Mobile.
Improved security features.
Windows Media Player 10 Mobile
Support for hard drives and USB 2.0

Windows Mobile 5.0 will become available later this year.
