Microsoft unveils Windows Mobile 5.0

Windows Mobile 5.0 announced today
Microsoft today announced Windows Mobile 5.0 at the Microsoft & Embedded Developers Conference in Las Vegas. This is a new major upgrade of Microsoft's operating system for mobile devices such as PDAs and smartphones.

Some of the new features and improvements:
  • Support for new technologies like push-to-talk, video calling and conferencing.
  • Support for 3G, WiFi and improved Bluetooth connectivity.
  • Support for QWERTY keyboards
  • Persistent memory storage that retains information when the device's battery is depleted.
  • Microsoft Office for Windows Mobile: Excel Mobile, Word Mobile and PowerPoint Mobile.
  • Improved security features.
  • Windows Media Player 10 Mobile
  • Support for hard drives and USB 2.0
Windows Mobile 5.0 will become available later this year.
