Toshiba: unified DVD format will be difficult

A senior official at Toshiba today told the press establishing a unified next-generation DVD format based on the Blu-ray technology would be very difficult. Last week both parties negotiated to developed a unified next-generation DVD format, instead of both HD DVD and Blu-ray.
A Toshiba spokeswoman said the company could not immediately verify Fujii's comments. She also said Toshiba planned to continue negotiating with the rival camp for a unified format.
