BetaNews writes Steve Jobs said yesterday night at a Wall Street Journal "D" conference that iTunes 4.9 will feature support for Podcasts.

The new version of iTunes is planned within the next two months and will allow users to subscribe and download pre-recorded content (Podcasts) without a third-party application. A tool to allow content authors to upload their recorded Podcasts to the iTunes digital music store will also be released.

Jobs didn't mention whether video will be the next step for iTunes, claiming that he'll leave the answer to that question to Apple's actions of the future. He also blamed wireless carriers for delays in the iTunes phone, stating that they had too much power in saying which features could be in the iTunes cell phone.

Some people asked whether the iPod was going to have problem from fierce competition in the market but Jobs said that while some rivals have come close, he is not concerned as Apple is working on some "great things".

Finally he also talked about buying or producing a TiVo like device.
