DigiTimes reports Acer is going to focus on Windows 8 based tablets with Intel processors, while Asustek is currently focusing on Android-based models due to the higher cost of the Wintel platform tablets.
Acer, after refuting rumors about plans to phase out of the tablet PC and smartphone markets, has adjusted strategies for its tablet PC business and will focus on a Windows-based model in the future, while Asustek Computer will continue to put its focus on Android-based models and is currently evaluating Windows 8-based models, according to sources from upstream supply chain.

As for Windows 8 model, due to Wintel platform's high cost, Asustek is more willing to develop product based on Windows on ARM (WoA) platform, but since Microsoft is also expected to take a tough stance on reducing its license fee, Asustek is still in the middle of evaluating a Windows 8 tablet PC.
