DigiTimes reports ASMedia's office got raided by law enforcement over alleged infringement of USB 3.0 patents owned by VIA Technologies.
ASMedia president Lin Che-wei, responding to the August 30 raid, told a press conference on August 31 that the company will fully cooperate with prosecutors and investigators, and remains confident about its in-house developed technologies. ASMedia's operations will not be negatively affected by the incident, said Lin, without elaborating further.

Rumors circulating in the industry have claimed that the authorities acted on complaints from VIA Technologies, which accused ASMedia of infringing its PHY technologies related to the design of USB 3.0 chips.

Many of ASMedia's R&D engineers are believed to have formerly worked for VIA, the rumors said.
