Two months ago Marissa Mayer left Google to take up a position as CEO at Yahoo but after that we didn't really hear much about the former search giant.

Now it seems Mayer is taking a cue from Ballmer's playbook by boosting morale with free gifts. In an e-mail to all of Yahoo's full time and part time employees in the US, Mayer promised them a new smartphone.

Through Yahoo's new "Yahoo! Smart Phones, Smart Fun!" program, employees will have the choice between a free Apple iPhone 5, Samsung Galaxy S3, HTC One X, HTC EVO 4G LTE or Nokia Lumia 920. On top of that, Yahoo will also pay its employees' data and phone bills.

The idea behind the plan is to give Yahoo employees the opportunity to use the phones that Yahoo users are using, so they can think and work as the majority of Yahoo's users do.
