German government still investigating AMD export license

Posted on Wednesday, July 06 2005 @ 14:15:07 CEST by

The Inquirer reports that AMD is having some problems to export its technology to the Far East. The Ministry of Economic Affairs in Germany is still examining whether it will allow AMD to export its technology to Asia.

That's because the processor technology falls into the dual use class, they can be used for civil but also for military use.
AMD wants to second source production of the processors to a fab in Singapore owned by Chartered Semiconductor.
