Shipments of ultrabooks to double next year?

So far shipments of ultrabooks haven't lived up to expectations, but DigiTimes heard from Taiwanese makers that shipments of ultrabooks and ultra-like models are anticipated to double in 2013. Ultrabooks are expected to grab 10 percent of global notebook shipments in 2013, with cheaper ultrabook-like products making up another 10 percent. Back in 2011, Intel anticipated that ultrabooks would be able to capture 40 percent of the global notebook in 2012.
Shipments of ultrabooks and ultra-like notebooks are expected to double in 2013 as compared to the previous year as brand vendors are adjusting their product mix to cope with falling market demand, according to industry sources.

Vendors are shifting more capacity to ultrabooks and ultra-like models as consumers are seeking products with more value-added, the sources noted, adding that declining prices will also help ramp up ultrabook sales.
