''ATI's R500 Xbox 360 GPU to be manufactured by IBM''

Posted on Wednesday, July 13 2005 @ 01:57:29 CEST by

ATI's R500 for the Xbox 360 won't be manufactured by ATI but by IBM. It appears that ATI's job was to design the R500 Xbox 360 GPU and give the designs back to Microsoft to get them produced.

Developers have already received developers kits with real R500 graphics cards inside, so it's sure that the R500 is taped-out and working.

The Inquirer heard that Microsoft will manufacture the R500 and its Xbox 360 CPU (an IBM PowerPC processor) at IBM's Fishkill factory in New York. Read more at The Inquirer
