Macromedia launches public Flash 8 player beta test

Macromedia has launched a beta version of Flash 8 player, codenamed Maelstrom. The public test is currently only available for computers running Windows 98 or later and Mac OS X 10.1 and later.

The company is also conducting a non-public beta test of the latest Flash authoring tool, which is codenamed 8Ball. Both the player and the authoring tool will be released by the end of this summer.
