TSMC expects to triple 28nm wafer production in 2013

DigiTimes reports TSMC's supply of 28nm chips remains tight due to strong orders for mobile devices. Chairman and CEO Morris Chang proudly announced TSMC achieves close to 100% of foundry market share in 28nm technology, and added that production of 28nm chips should triple in 2013.
TSMC has seen chip demand for smartphones and tablets stay brisk since the first quarter of 2013, as its clients prepare for the introduction of new products at the upcoming Mobile World Congress (MWC) trade show, followed by their official launches later in the quarter, the sources indicated.

TSMC chairman and CEO Morris Chang remarked at the company's most-recent investors conference that the foundry is close to achieving 100% foundry market share in 28nm technology. TSMC will continue to significantly ramp up its production of 28nm chips in 2013 with wafer starts to triple those of 2012, according to Chang.
