German tech site PC Games Hardware came across a rumor that AMD's new top model in the upcoming "Volcanic Islands" GPU series will catch up with the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 in terms of performance, meaning the GTX Titan will still remain the performance king.

The new GPUs are expected to be introduced as the Radeon HD 9000 series and according to the site, it seems they will still be made using a 28nm process. Mass production is anticipated to start towards the end of the year, meaning widespread availability shouldn't be expected until early 2014.
