Microsoft to ship Xbox 360 to Europe before year-end

PC Pro wrote Microsoft plans to launch the Xbox 360 in the US before Thanksgiving in November and overseas market will get it within six weeks of the US launch.

Initially, Microsoft said that the Xbox would reach overseas markets within six weeks of the launch in the US. As six weeks from Thanksgiving would give very little sales time in the crucial run up to Christmas, presumably the on sale date in the US has been brought forward or the six week window has been shortened.
