DigiTimes heard rumors that AMD is planning to move its desktop business headquarters from the US to Beijing, China. The new office will reportedly be headed by desktop business general manager Steven Liu and one of his prime tasks will be to strengthen AMD's competitiveness in the Chinese DIY PC market.

The report also mentions that AMD hopes to tighten its relationship with Lenovo and that AMD is trying to shrink its notebook business to improve its profitability.
Commenting on its staff cuts and product strategy adjustments, AMD Taiwan pointed out that it will distribute resources fairly among each department in order to meet the market demand for transformation and lightening its staff and workload in Taiwan should help sales and related resources to become more adapted with the market opportunities.

The sources pointed out that most employees that had been laid off were mostly from notebook-related departments, showing that AMD is trying to shrink its notebook business to improve its profitability.
