AMD to license SATA Express IP from ASMedia?

DigiTimes received word that AMD is in talks to license SATA Express technology from ASMedia for its next-generation platform.

The partnership will bring ASMedia income from licensing fees and the partnership should start contributing profits in 2015.

AMD plans to establish the partnership by having ASMedia share its silicon intellectual property (SIP) or by acquiring licenses. For motherboard players and system integrators, the cooperation will save them costs and time as they will not need to purchase chips for SATA Express from third-party chipmakers, the sources noted.

AMD is hoping the strong integration of its platform will help attract demand from partners and relatively strengthen its APU and graphics cards' competitiveness.
