NVIDIA absolute king in the high-end GPU market

Mercury Research says NVIDIA grabbed 73 percent of the high-end DirectX9 GPU market in the second quarter of this year, while ATI holds the second spot with 27 percent.

In the overall GPU market Intel is the big number one with a 43 percent share. ATI follows with 26 percent and NVIDIA takes the third place with 16 percent.

It is expected that NVIDIA will keep its edge in the high-end market throughout the second half of tihs year as ATI's R520 is delayed to September. NVIDIA's GeForce 7800 GTX is already widely available for more than a month and many PC OEMs have chosen to implement it for volume shipments in the fourth quarter.
