In recent years we haven't heard much from VIA as the Taiwanese processor maker hasn't managed to keep up in the x86 market. DigiTimes writes company president Chen Wen-Chi is still optimistic about VIA's performance and believe the company can return to profitable operation in 2015 via an adjusted product mix and new embedded solution orders from China. The firm is currently in talks with clients for x86 PC solution orders and is seeing embedded solutions demand for products like set-top boxes.
Chen pointed out that the performances of the company's subsidiaries VIA Labs, Wondermedia and Genie Networks are also back on track; therefore he expects the company to be able to earn profits in 2015, despite a failure to do so in 2014.

As for the China government's recently announced strategy to fully support and nurture local semiconductor players, Chen believes it could bring a strong challenge to the Taiwan and worldwide semiconductor industries, but VIA has been forming partnerships with China's players and will only see limited impact from the policies.
