AMD's Fab 25 in Austin Texas has recieved 2 two new certifications for voluntary standards for environmental and occupational health and safety management systems.
ISO (International Organization for Standardization) 14001 is an international standard for environmental management systems. OHSAS (Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series) 18001 sets some standards for occupational health and safety management systems. These certifications, says AMD, verify that AMD’s Fab 25 "has robust systems in place to identify and manage potential environmental impacts and occupational health and safety risks, and to pursue continual improvement".

The company says Fab 25 has a number of initiatives in place to meet its environmental, health and safety goals, including recycling and water reuse programs, extensive ergonomic training, and an injury and illness prevention team.

AMD director of Environmental Health and Safety, Rich Weigand, claimed the certifications highlighted AMD’s "long-standing commitment to providing a safe workplace for employees and protecting our neighboring communities".

The company says that all its manufacturing facilities meet the ISO 14001 standard. AMD’s Singapore and Bangkok sites are also OHSAS 18001 certified, it said, although the same can’t be said of some third-party sites the company uses.
