Could Qualcomm be interested in AMD?

There are some rumors floating around today that Qualcomm may be interesting in acquiring AMD (or a part of the company). I was hesitant to post about this but seeing as more and more tech sites are picking it up I decided to write a quick blurb to clarify this rumor.

The story originated at SeekingAlpha, an investing community that pays people for submitted content based on how many pageviews the content generates. While there are some very knowledgeable writers on Seeking Alpha producing high quality content, there are also a lot of writers outputting articles about companies they know very little about - and everything in between.

In this particular case the idea that Qualcomm could be looking at a buyout of AMD was sparked by a comment from Qualcomm CEO Steve Mollenkopf that his company is expanding into the datacenter business and that they're open to mergers and acquisitions.

While we can't rule out that Qualcomm may indeed be interested in AMD, the source of this rumor is little more than pure speculation based on public information.
