Hexus heard about the Universal 3-D Project at the IDF. This organisation was formed years ago and aims to bring 3D images to mainstream applications.

They are working on creating and deploying a single file format which allows applications to share 3D data.
Intel is driving to create this 3D version of the "JPEG" file format, and they have created a 3D Industry Forum - 3DIF.org. There has already been some major milestones for the project and many more to come.
