Earlier this week news emerged that Microsoft is indeed going to release two Windows 10 updates this year. The software giant initially promised a cadence of about three updates a year but this target got scaled back rather quickly. Last year we got one update called Anniversary Update (Redstone 1) and this year we can expect one update in April and a second one in Fall 2017.

The first update is the Creators Update (aka Redstone 2), this will be a relatively minor update similar to the Windows 10 November Update (Threshold 2) from 2015. MSPowerUser writes the Fall update is going to be the next major update for Windows 10.

So far the update is only known by its Redstone 3 codename but things are coming along nicely as Microsoft recently compiled the first Redstone 3 builds:
As reported by Windows build-tracking website BuildFeed, Microsoft has compiled Windows 10 Build 15141 from the rs_prerelease branch internally — and it’s one of the first Redstone 3 builds.
Not a lot of known about the feature set of the Fall update but we do know the Redstone 3 release is expected to introduce an improved design (aka Project NEON) and the Composable Shell. Microsoft is expected to reveal more details about this update at the Build 2017 conference in May.
Microsoft is yet to officially talk about the Redstone 3 update, but the software giant confirmed that it’s working on a second update for Windows 10 in 2017 earlier this week. Windows 10 Redstone 3 is going to introduce quite a lot of things to Windows 10 — firstly, I have been hearing for a while that Microsoft is planning to introduce Windows 10’s improved design (codenamed “Project NEON”) with Redstone 3. In addition to NEON, Microsoft will also likely introduce the new Composable Shell and other features with the Redstone 3 release.
