Hewlett-Packard becomes HP

The shift from "Hewlett-Packard" to "HP" is an key element of the company's post-acquisition makeover. "HP" is shorter, snappier and forward-looking, whilst "Hewlett-Packard" looks forward into the past. A portion of which is best forgotten, especially in light of Bill Hewlett's hideously expensive and ultimately futile effort to derail the formation of the world's second-largest IT company.
