One more AMD rumor to close the day. VideoCardz came across a report that AMD is renaming its current Polaris 1x series to Polaris 2x, and that the company will revert back to the old "XL" and "XTX" suffixes.

One interesting thing here is that AMD seems to be using "20" codenames for GPU refreshes. For example, we've heard about a future Vega 20 refresh, which would be a shrink of Vega to the 7nm process.
In case you don’t remember, we reported that AMD’s long-term plans include Vega 20 refresh. The chip would allegedly receive a new 7nm fabrication node. So it would appear that AMD is using “20” codenames for GPU refreshes. What we don’t know is how much improvement could we expect from Polaris 2X.
If the rumor pans out, the Radeon RX 500 "Polaris Refresh" will look like this:
  • Polaris 20 XTX (rebranded Polaris 10 XT)

  • Polaris 20 XL (rebranded Polaris 10 PRO)

  • Polaris 21 (rebranded Polaris 11)

  • Polaris 12 (a new low-end GPU)
