Intel is expected to introduce the Optane 900P before the end of this month. This is a new SSD for the consumer market, it succeeds the 750 SSD and it appears this will be the first SSD with support for the new PCI Express 4.0 interface!

The Optane 900P features the 3D XPoint memory and is offered in a PCIe card edition and 2.5-inch U.2 (with M.2 adapter) variants.

Leaked slides from Intel indicate the 900P series will offer read speeds of up to 2.5GB/s, write speeds of up to 2GB/s and 500,000 random 4K write IOPS.

The disk is already showing up at ShopBLT. Pricing is $634.14 for the 280GB variants and $1,076.72 for the 480GB edition. PCI Express 4.0 is backwards compatible so you will be able to use it in existing motherboards. Demand for this product will probably be low given the very high price per GB versus flagship NAND-based SSDs.
